Hillel's Latest Response to Campus Antisemitism
March 25, 2023

Daniel W. Bennett, Executive Director of Hillel of Colorado
Shalom — Many of you have expressed deep concern about antisemitic incidents on our campuses, and I want to update you on what we're seeing and how Hillel is responding.
The Current Landscape
Antisemitism on college campuses is not new — but it is intensifying. Across Colorado's campuses, we have seen:
- Antisemitic graffiti targeting Jewish students and Jewish spaces
- Anti-Israel events and demonstrations that cross the line into antisemitism
- Classroom environments where Jewish students feel singled out or marginalized
- Social media harassment targeting Jewish students
These incidents create a hostile environment that affects students' ability to learn, to participate in campus life, and to feel safe in their identity.
Hillel's Response
Hillel of Colorado is responding on multiple fronts:
- Direct Student Support: Our staff is in constant contact with students, providing emotional support, guidance, and resources. We have increased our one-on-one meetings and group programming to ensure students feel seen and supported.
- Advocacy with University Leadership: We are working closely with university presidents, chancellors, and administrators to advocate for stronger policies, better enforcement of codes of conduct, and more robust support for Jewish students.
- Community Partnerships: We are partnering with ADL, JCRC, and other community organizations to coordinate our response and amplify our voice.
- Education and Training: We are offering workshops and trainings to help students, faculty, and staff recognize and respond to antisemitism.
