Student Spotlight: Alex Kaye

Alex Kaye – Philanthropy chair

New to the CSU Hillel leadership team this year is Alex Kaye.  A sophomore Fermentation science major Alex has become a familiar face at the Hillel house after spending many days last year building friendships at Hillel.

Originally from down south in Atlanta Georgia, Alex has certainly made a large leap from home, but that was intentional.

“I wanted to be around the beautiful nature of Colorado and meet new people. Fort Collins has both those attributes, also I simply wanted to evolve as a person, said Alex.

This year at Hillel Alex is taking a step forward by being on leadership team, serving as the Philanthropy chair for CSU Hillel.

“I’m really excited for this opportunity. I have so many ideas it’s hard to pick one. But I want do events that tackle the root of issues whatever they may be. I want to do any kind of mitzvah that helps assist those in need within the community. Ideally I can help lead Hillel into a philanthropy event that becomes an annual routine helping grow our Hillel as a pillar in the community.”

This past summer Alex was one several CSU Rams who went on CSU Hillel’s Birthright trip. The 10 days were such a whirlwind but Alex says experiences like visiting the Western Wall expanded his understanding what being Jewish means.

“Before college I didn’t consider myself very Jewish but by being at Hillel and having an amazing Birthright experience I’ve been able to define being Jewish in my life, on my own terms, and knowing that for every person it is different.”

He’s far away from her now but back home in Atlanta is ‘Shugs’ the family’s adorable 8 year old Yorkie.

Not surprisingly some of Alex’s favorite hobbies include hiking and camping. He also enjoys playing video games like Madden NFL and reading books, mostly philosophy.

Come and meet Alex and the other CSU Hillel staff soon at Hillel house or at an upcoming Shabbat!
