Who We Are

Denver University Hillel is a proud part of Hillel of Colorado – which also includes the Colorado State Hillel – serving students with traditional programming such as Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, social justice initiatives, and religious and social programs; leadership programs to train the Jewish leaders of tomorrow, and Israel programs including Birthright Israel travel opportunities and Israel education, dialogue, and advocacy programs.

What We Do

At DU Hillel’s home-away-from-home we offer our students lots of ways to engage Jewishly.

From Shabbat dinners, holiday, celebrations, Social Justice programs; and Leadership Development opportunities were always cultivating our community!

Join us every Friday night at the Merage & Allon DU Hillel Center (and virtually during COVID-19) for a short, student-led Kabbalat Shabbat service, dinner, and community experience: our amazing students take the lead in planning and implementing all of our programs.

Together with our student leaders, we are now working on programs that are creative, fun and safe during the time of COVID-19. Stay tuned for updates on our website calendar and social media.

Learning Opportunities

It is for good reason that the Jewish people are called – “People of the Book”.  Learning is a core value in Judaism, so at Hillel we offer learning groups on engaging topics such as:

  • Israel: its beauty and challenges;  sign up for Israel Explorers Fellowship or come to Israel with DU
  • Judaism: Dilemmas and questions coming up while connecting our modern life with ancient wisdom;
    • check out our weekly Tid Bits of Torah to learn the parshat of the week from our Director
  • Tikun Olam and personal wellness: Using Jewish law and custom to care for ourselves and our surroundings.
    • Be a part of our Winter Wellness Cohort
    • Join our Green Team to engage in learning and action around eco-Judaism

Israel Explorers Fellowship: Israel Through Netflix

Join Hillel and Israel Emissary Itai Davinsky as we get into the depths of Israeli culture, politics, and life through the lens of films and TV shows. This program will run Mondays 6:30-8 pm October 4 – November 15. Upon completion, students will receive a $100 stipend.

DU Hillel

A Word From Our Campus Director

Lily Gross

Shalom – I say this not only as a “Hello” but also as a wish for peace to you. We live in an ever-changing world of ups and downs and I am grateful to have the opportunity to help you find your way through them in the flow of college. Through learning, song, food, and of course community we at our DU Hillel explore how our ancient Jewish traditions can be applied to the modern world!

As the Director of Jewish Student Life, I am excited to embark on the journey of Jewish exploration with the University of Denver Hillel student body. I look forward to getting to know you, so please reach out! I am only an email, phone call, or text message away to share a “shalom”.
